Pune is a city located in the state of Maharashtra. Previously known as Poona, it is a city situated at the junction of Mutha and Mula rivers. It is also given the name – “Queen of the Deccan”. It is considered as a capital of culture for the people of Maratha.

This city gained recognition in the early 17th century as the capital of Bhonsle Marathas. Mughals occupied this city for some time, but it was acquired back by Marathas and thus remained capital for Marathas till 1817. Now, it has become a famous tourist resort which offers cold weather along with various parks, hotels, religious monuments etc.

The game of badminton was invented there in the 19th century. It is also the birthplace of spiritual teacher Meher Baba. Mula and Mutha are the two rivers that flow through the city. It has also", "Oxford of the East", "Detroit of India" by some.

पुणे-नगरं महाराष्ट्रराज्यस्य पुणे-मण्डलस्य मुख्यालयः अस्ति । इदं नगरम् “सदाचारस्य नगरम्” अपि कथ्यते । पुरा इदं “पुणेवाडी” इति नाम्ना ज्ञायते स्म । “छत्रपति शिवाजी” इत्याख्येन मराठा-शासकेन कथ्यते स्म । पुणे-नगरे ऐतिहासिकानि, धार्मिकानि च स्थलानि सन्ति । आगा खान पैलेस्, शिन्दे छतरी, सिंहगढ-दुर्गः च अस्य नगरस्य प्रमुखाणि पर्यटनस्थलानि सन्ति । “ओशो रजनीश” इत्याख्येन पुणे-नगरे “ओशो कम्यून् इण्टरनेशनल् सेण्टर्” इत्याख्या संस्था स्थापिता । अस्मिन् नगरे कार्ला-भाजा इत्यनयोः बौद्धगुहाः अपि प्रसिद्धाः सन्ति । पटलेश्वर-मन्दिरं पुणे-नगरस्य प्राचीनं मन्दिरं विद्यते । इदं मन्दिरं १४०० वर्षेभ्यः पुरातनम् अस्ति । अस्त नगरस्य जलवायुः उष्णकटिबन्धीयः अस्ति । अतः शीतर्तौ, ग्रीष्मर्तौ च अस्य नगरस्य वातावरणं सुखदं भवति । पुणे-नगरं राष्ट्रियराजमार्गेषु स्थितम् अस्ति । नगरेऽस्मिन् महाराष्ट्रराज्यस्य सर्वकारेण प्रचालितानि बसयानानि सन्ति । बसयानैः नागपुर-नगरस्य भ्रमणे सारल्यं भवति । मुम्बई-महानगराय, नागपुर-महानगराय च पुणे-नगरात् बसयानानि प्राप्यन्ते । पुणे-नगरे एकं रेलस्थानकम् अस्ति । इदं रेलस्थानकं भारतस्य विभिन्ननगरैः सह सम्बद्धम् अस्ति । देहली-महानगराय, मुम्बई-महानगराय, कोलकाता-महानगराय, बेङ्गळूरु-महानगराय इत्यादिभ्यः भारतस्य नगरेभ्यः नियमितरूपेण रेलयानानि प्राप्यन्ते । पुणे-नगरात् १२ किलोमीटर्मिते दूरे लोहेगांव-विमानस्थानकम् अस्ति । लोहेगांव-विमानस्थानकात् देहली-महानगराय, मुम्बई-महानगराय, बेङ्गळूरु-महानगराय च वायुयानानि प्राप्यन्ते । अनेन प्रकारेण पुणे-नगरं भूमार्गेण, धूमशकटमार्गेण, वायुमार्गेण च सम्बद्धम् अस्ति । अतः यात्रिकाः सरलतया पुणे-नगरं गन्तु शक्नुवन्ति ।
